Anyway, I've compiled a bunch of stuff to do with Dad this weekend. Let's start with the weekend long ban on chick flicks.
Man Of Steel opens this weekend. Early reviews have been positive. It's directed by Watchmen’s Zack Snyder and produced by The Dark Knight trilogy’s Christopher Nolan. Henry Cavill dons the tights this time out, but without the iconic red underwear on the outside. I like the new look of the suit. Oh, and that's not an "S" on his chest any more. It's a Kryptonian symbol for hope. Man Of Steel is rated PG-13.
What happens when Jonah Hill and Seth Rogan go to a party at James Franco's (playing himself) house just as the Apocolypse begins? Why, hilarity, of course. This Is The End is rated R for plenty of raunchy humor.
Dads and beer go together like bacon and eggs. The Flying Davenports will be at the Parkway Brewing Company on Saturday. The show gets underway at 3:30 at the brewery located at 739 Kesler Mill Road in Salem.
The tenth annual Southwest Virginia Antique Farm Days is going on all weekend with a flea market and auction, blacksmithing, kids games and a chainsaw competition on Saturday, and the cornhole tournament and lawnmower pull on Sunday. General admission is 5 bucks, kids under twelve are in free and gates at the Franklin County Recreation Park open at 8am all three days.
The Tanglewood Mall Sports Collectibles Show is going on from 10am til 7pm inside the mall. Cards, clothing, books and more, plus collectibles of all kinds. Over 30 vendors will be onsite at the show located near JCPenney on the lower level.
Father’s Day Celebration at Peaks of Otter Winery: Dazzle Dad with tastes of our many fruit wines. Free Noon-5p.m. You may bring your own glass, purchase a souvenir glass or taste out of a free plastic cup. Also, Picnic and Visit The National D-Day Memorial, Bedford Museum and Poplar Forest.
Step back in time during Buchanan’s Antique & Classic Auto Cruise In. Friday night. Stroll through dozens of antique autos lining Main Street. Shop, stroll and dine along Main Street taking advantage of extended hours being offered by many of the downtown businesses.
The Wayne C. Henderson Music Festival and Guitar Competition is Saturday at Grayson Highlands State Park. You may remember Wayne from our Emmy winning "Virginia" series on the Fox 21/27 10 o'clock News. Get more information here.
And a last minute gift idea for Pop. Gordon Lightfoot in concert Saturday night, and Daniel Tosh will be at the Roanoke Civic Center Tuesday night for two shows. I've seen him, and he is uncomfortably hilarious. Get tickets here.
