3 People Seriously Hurt in Fiery I-81 Crash

MONTGOMERY COUNTY -

Three people were seriously hurt today in a fiery crash this afternoon...after State Police say the driver fell asleep behind the wheel.

It happened around 2:25 p.m. at mile marker 114.9 headed southbound.

According to State Police, the driver of a 1999 Chevy Blazer fell asleep and then overcorrected the vehicle, veering left and flipping five to six times on the road....before landing in a ditch and catching on fire.

All three passengers were taken to New River Valley Medical Center with serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Police say they were all wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

According to police, drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash.
