Poverty took center stage Wednesday night at an event that allowed people to speak frankly about barriers and realistic solutions.
Our own Becky Freemal helped moderate the event.
People who live in poverty shared the challenges they face to get back on their feet. Topics ranged from housing and health issues, to transportation.
"We have individuals who are nonprofit leaders in health and human service organizations. We have business leaders from the community. We have individuals who are actually homeless living in poverty. So it's really a great mix of people who can bring lots of different perspectives to the issue and can talk openly about what they are facing," said Annette Patterson with The Advancement Foundation.
The Advancement Foundation and the Office of Justice and Peace of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond held Wednesday's event.
The next step is to send a draft of Wednesday's findings to those in attendance so they can come up with a timeline of when solutions can become a reality.
