Runners laced up in Lynchburg Thursday evening to kick off the Virginia 10 Miler race.
This is the 40th anniversary of the event, and groups held a preview celebration to get folks into the marathon mood.
About 100 people turned out for the three-mile fun run.
The actual 10-mile race is set for Sept. 28.
New this year: a training program for anyone interested in running in the community.
Organizers say it's one of the oldest 10-mile road races in the United States.
We're told about 1,200 people finished the race last year, which brought in around $200,000 to the region.
