A state grant is helping a Martinsville agency build a new home while it helps get people back to work.
Construction is underway on the New College Institute's state-of-the-art facility in Martinsville.
The $18 million project is being paid for mainly by grants, including a $700,000 community block grant recently announced by the governor's office.
The new building will feature manufacturing labs, collaborative classrooms, and an entrepreneurship and innovation center.
"We've had limited opportunity to do what we've needed to do within the existing structures," said New College Institute Associate Director Leanna Blevins. "This allows us to design what we need from the ground up and do the things we need to do in response to what business and industry say they need."
The first classes in the new building are set for August 2014.
