The Governor's Bowl, a campaign that runs from Memorial Day to Independence Day to help the state's food banks stay stocked up during the summer, wraps up on this Thursday.
Feeding America Southwest Virginia says six chambers and 20 state agencies in our area are in the race to win the 2013 governor's cup.
We're told food drives like the Governor's Bowl, Stamp Out Hunger and the Legal Food Frenzy are very important and bring in the most food to the Feeding America shelves.
A box full of donated food sits in the lobby of the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce.
Executive Director Debbie Kavitz says this cause is proof our business community finds it important to give back.
"The thing that I saw around our board table was the business community responded with warm hearts and generous pockets, they wanted to do it, there was no question about whether or not we would." Kavitz said. "The need is apparent and the need is there."
The deadline to donate is this Thursday, July 4.
