Welcome to the July 4th weekend! Hopefully a long weekend for most of you. I personally woke up not to fireworks, hot dogs and American flags in my face, but to a flooded basement due to all the rain.
Which reminds me, keep a close eye on Your Fox 21/27 Morning and Ten O'clock News because a lot of fireworks are being moved, postponed and cancelled. I can't keep up with it myself.
The Salem Fair, however, goes on rain or shine. We have daily updates of what's happening on Fox 21/27, or you can jump over to the official Salem Fair website for the details.
In theaters this weekend, The Minions are back in Despicable Me 2. Oh, and Gru is back as well. But.. MINIONS! I could just watch two hours of them being stupid and be entertained. It's rated PG.
Also opening is The Lone Ranger. Rated PG-13, it stars Armie Hammer as the titular (giggle) character and Johnny Depp as Tonto. I thought Armie was outstanding in The Social Network, so I hope this is a big hit and sets his career on fire. But I doubt it.
The Buchanan Fourth of July Carnival continues until July 6. Join them to celebrate their 60th anniversary. Voted one of the "Best Community Events" by readers of the Roanoke Times Botetourt View. Enjoy an old fashioned Carnival featuring Games, Rides by Coles Amusements, Food and Great Music. Activities begin at 6:30pm each evening except Sunday.
The Taming of the Shrew at The Renaissance Theater in Lynchburg at the Sweet Briar College Theater happens Sunday July 7. Learn more about that right here.
And Awful Arthur's in downtown Roanoke will be the place to get your face melted off as Madrone hits the stage. If you haven't heard these guys, you're living under a rock with a Rubik's Cube. Get a taste of what you will here at their official website. The show starts at nine.
That's about it. Be safe this weekend. If you drink, don't drive. Walk. If you can't walk, fall down.
