BaconFest coming to Roanoke in August

Posted: Updated:
DOWNTOWN ROANOKE -

Bacon lovers rejoice as the first bacon festival will be coming to Roanoke in August.

It's just one of several events that now calls Roanoke home.

Downtown Roanoke Inc. has been working to grow the Star City's profile by recruiting more festivals.

That strategy is helping some smaller local businesses like R.T. Smith's Deli on Campbell Avenue.

Owner Craig Smith said the long term effects of festivals are generally good for business.

"During festivals we get a lot more foot traffic," Smith said. "People walking by who have never seen it before, maybe next week when they're out and about they remember, hey there's that New York style deli, let's try it out."

Roanoke's BaconFest is set for August 31 at Railside Plaza.
