Many people were hit hard by the flooding Wednesday, but Officer Patrick Perkins put his own troubles aside in order to keep his community safe.
He was called in to help direct traffic due to the flooding, leaving behind his own home, which was in bad condition.
His basement was flooded almost to the ceiling. All of the family's belongings, such as furniture and photographs, floated around the basement until Perkins could return home.
The family did not have flood insurance because they do not live in a flood plain.
