Many viewers were struck by our coverage of officer Patrick Perkins Wednesday. People posted to Facebook and sent us emails asking how they can help the policeman whose home was flooded during Wednesday's heavy rains while he was out assisting citizens. Water nearly reached the ceiling in the basement.
Roanoke City Police have made arrangements for people who want to help officer Perkins. Sgt. John Stephens at the Roanoke City Police Department will coordinate police department assistance and other offers of help.
The Officer Perkins Relief Fund has been set up at Roanoke Valley Community Credit Union to receive donations. Stop by any RVCCU location to donate to the fund, which is account 26397. You can also wire money to the account from other banks and credit unions.
