Roanoke farmers market heading to River's Edge

Posted: Updated:
ROANOKE -

Roanoke's downtown farmers market is hitting the road this summer.

Eight market vendors will be setting up at the River's Edge Sports Complex every Thursday evening from 4 -7 p.m.

Last year a similar program proved to be successful when vendors set up outside of the Kirk Family YMCA.

Downtown Roanoke Inc. Market Manager Tracie Hughes said it's a good opportunity to attract new shoppers to the market.

"Sometimes people tend to forget how important and how special it is, and how lucky we are to have something like this in the heart of Roanoke," Hughes said about the farmers market. "When we take it outside of the city just a little bit, we just get some new customers and showcase what we have."

The vendors will also be joined by food trucks this year.

City Market at the River begins Thursday and runs through the end of August.
