So the Commonwealth Games are upon us. Virginia's Olympics for over twenty years featuring Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, Chess, Lacrosse, Football, Shooting Events, Volleyball, Archery, Fencing, Karate, and much more. You can get a complete rundown of all the events at their website.

In theaters this weekend, Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges star as undead officers in RIPD. Take a look at the trailer here. It's rated PG-13. Also opening on the scary side is The Conjuring. Based on the work of real life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, the pair try to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse. The Conjuring is rated R.

Saturday,  come celebrate Blacksburg's vibrant arts community during Art at the Market on the lawn across Draper Rd. from Market Square Park. This exposition of unique works will showcase local artists in all visual media. The event will be held in conjunction with the annual Breakfast at the Farmers Market. This family event features wonderful local food, live music and the best produce the farmers have to offer. Make it a family affair and take in some art along with your breakfast!

The 2013 Rockbridge Regional Fair welcomes carnival rides, Draft Horse Pull, Jim Weaver Memorial Tractor Pull, and entertainment from Andy Crawford, SaraJane McDonald, Dixie Ridge, Blue Ridge Mountain Cloggers and the Crow Creek Band. Singers compete in the annual Karaoke Contest. 4-H and FFA youth compete their livestock projects and the Southern States Horse Show offers many classes. The Homemaking competition show the best baked and canned goods, vegetables, needlework, and crafts in the area. Contestants in the Flower, Quilt, and Art Contests display their entries in Anderson Coliseum during the week. Sue Hogan of Blue Dog Art Cafe and Fraki Benincasa of Pronto Café judge local tomatoes and corn in the Sweet Corn and Tomato Tasting Contest. Learn all about it here.

SML Pirate Days happen this weekend. All three counties, Franklin, Bedford, and Pittsylvania surrounding Smith Mountain Lake, participate in creating a 3-D Pirate experience (free admission). The theme is simple and 'family friendly' a great way for businesses to connect their marketing efforts to create a memorable Smith Mountain Lake experience.
