Salem Man Blamed in Roanoke Deadly Triple Shooting

Posted: Updated:

Roanoke City Police on Monday evening released the names of the three people involved in a deadly shooting in northeast on Sunday.

According to Sergeant J.K. Holt, the investigation found that 61-year-old Thomas Hubert Radford Jr., of Salem, went to a home in the 100 block of Houston Avenue NE a little before 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.  Police say Radford shot his brother-in-law, 72-year-old Ernest John Booden, of Roanoke, and his sister, 60-year-old Cynthia R. Booden, of Roanoke, in a back basement.

Officers say Cynthia then ran to a neighbor's home to call police.

Investigators say Radford then killed himself. Officers found a gun next to his body.

EMTs took both of the Boodens to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Investigators believe family problems led to the shooting, and there had been no previous call for domestic problems at the address.

The investigation is ongoing.
