Virginia Tech's War Memorial Chapel will get its first ever deep cleaning.
Scaffolding is already up around the structure. The Indiana limestone pylons and the War Memorial Chapel below it will get a power washing in the coming weeks. The side of Burruss Hall facing the drillfield will also be cleaned.
The two will share the cost to rent the scaffolding and the cleaning, which runs about $10,000 each. It's the first time the pylons, which have the names of alumni who have died while in military service carved on them, have had a cleaning like this since they were dedicated in 1961.
