Earlier this month the commonwealth announced a new initiative for the state to find permanent homes for 1,000 Virginia foster children.
There are currently about 4,000 kids in foster care all across the state, and the campaign to help them find forever homes kicked off in our area Monday with a regional event to raise awareness in Daleville.
"I hope people become aware of older teens and how much excitement they can bring to family and home," said permanency consultant Dawn Caldwell. "Often we think of infants and toddlers, but we have some teenagers who are really neat to be around and they're interested in having a family of their own."
If you missed Monday's event, you still have a few more chances.
Similar events will be taking place in Danville Tuesday night, and a final event in Charlottesville on Wednesday.
