Bedford County wedding thief suspect caught in California

BEDFORD COUNTY, VA -

The Bedford County Sheriff's Office says a suspected thief who targeted a wedding has been caught and brought back to the county.

Deputies say 45-year-old Michael Wayne Kidd, of Bedford, was arrested in San Diego, California for crossing the street against a traffic light on May 5th.  Later, San Diego investigators learned Kidd was wanted in Bedford County.

Bedford County investigators believe on February 23rd, Kidd stole wallets from two women attending a wedding at the Faith Life Baptist Church in Montvale.

Deputies tracked the use of the credit cards from the stolen wallets to a store in Lynchburg the next day, followed by others businesses in Lynchburg, as well as Bedford County and Campbell County.

Officers brought Kidd back to Bedford County on Wednesday, July 31st.  He faces the following charges:

  • Grand larceny
  • Fraud by credit card
  • Theft of credit cards (6 counts)


Kidd is being held without bond.
