Hundreds of drivers on Route 460 in Shawsville were stuck in stop and go traffic Wednesday.
It was part of a detour for construction on Interstate 81 that was supposed to end at 6 a.m., but was postponed until the afternoon.
VDOT said the traffic was because of two unplanned problems: the line painting paving project on Interstate 81 and planned blasting delays.
"I haven't seen something like this in a long time," says Jaimal Viney, one of the many drivers who waited in traffic. "I know not to come on this road again."
Drivers aren't the only ones feeling the effects of stand-still traffic. For Rakesh Patel, who owns White Creek Market on Route 460, a backup like this really affects his business.
"Our business is in local people so they don't come out when the traffic is a lot," Patel says.
