The New River Valley has some encouraging home sales news.
Total sales increased 8.32 percent for the overall MSA in comparison to the first half of 2012.
The median prices is also up more than 10 percent.
Nest Realty agent Jeremy Hart says he is "cautiously optimistic" and expects the trend to continue for at least the next 18 months. He says the NRV housing market has not seen the extreme peaks and valleys the rest of the country has experienced. Hart says that's due in part to having Virginia Tech and Radford University in the area.
The New River Valley MSA includes the cities of Blacksburg and Christiansburg and the counties of Giles, Montgomery, and Pulaski.
