Four Forest-Area Bedford County Schools on Lockdown Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

Four Bedford County schools were placed on lockdown Tuesday.

The Bedford County Sheriff's office says at about 9:40 a.m. they got a report that a student had been assaulted with a weapon by a black man in his 30s who was wearing a gray hoodie and black pants.

As a safety precaution, around 9:45 a.m. Jefferson Forest High, Forest Middle, Thomas Jefferson Elementary, and Forest Elementary schools were placed on a Level 1 lockdown.

A Level 1 lockdown means that all school entrances are locked and guarded. Students are allowed to move between classes, just not outside.

A captain with the Sheriff's Office said at no time were the students in immediate danger.

The lockdown was lifted around noon after officials said the "incident could not be substantiated."

The Sheriff's Office is still looking into the matter.
