I wonder if the rate of home schooled children is on the rise.
What are we, only a week into the school year? ... and already we have a school shooting. This one in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
When we dealt with the Columbine shooting, it was an "only of its kind" event. Now - while just as horrific - these events are no longer one of a kind. Last school year was a bit ridiculous ... we had shootings from colleges to the elementary level. I can't imagine anyone will forget the children and teachers who lost their lives at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
I have a 4 year old and for the first time in my life, I wonder if home schooling might be the answer. Will I actually do it - probably not ... but I wonder how many more people are taking the plunge into home schooling because of safety alone.
It absolutely dumbfounds me that safety concerns should scare a parent from sending a child to school ... but I'm starting think there are people out there (who are MUCH better at math than I) who will choose to home school.
