Buena Vista woman charged in prisoner sex, bribery scandal

A Buena Vista woman faces multiple charges in Staunton that prosecutors say were tied to her previous job as a probation officer for the Virginia Department of Corrections.

According to Staunton Circuit Court online records, a grand jury indicted Meaghan Fields, of Buena Vista, on Tuesday, September 3rd, on the following charges:

  • Felony solicitation (type not clear) - 1 charge
  • Felony bribery of a public official - 4 charges spanning from January of 2011 through October 2011
  • Felony carnal knowledge of a prisoner by an officer - 2 charges, prosecutors say both took place on July 1, 2011
  • Felony possession with the intent to distribute a Schedule I or II drug - 1 charge, prosecutors say the crime took place on October 1, 2011.


According to Virginia Department of Corrections spokesman Larry Traylor, Field was employed in the agency's Staunton office from October 25,2010 through September 7, 2012.

Online prison records show Fields was arrested on Wednesday, September 4th, and booked into the Middle River Regional Jail in Staunton.
