Progress Park's Lot 24 is now prepared to house an advanced manufacturing plant.
Crews worked for over four years to move 3.5 million cubic yards of material to provide a company in need of a large, flat space with an ideal site for expansion.
The project cost $24 million and was funded by both local and state contributors.
The site has over 150 acres of flat land. It's complete with many amenities required for a large company to expand. It also has access to rail service and is strategically located near the intersection of I-77 and I-81.
Wythe County's Executive Director of Joint Industrial Development, Alan Hawthorne, says the project will mean big things for the area.
"It will be an exciting opportunity for anyone that lives here as it will create spin-off opportunity for existing businesses," Hawthorne says.
The county is currently working with the Virginia Economic Development Partnership and site consultants to find a company to build on the site.
Hawthorne says the process may take a while, but he has no doubt the site will meet a company's needs. "This will be the answer to a big project's need that is anxious to move quickly and cannot afford to wait for a lot of site preparation," he says.
