Gov. McDonnell on State Gun Laws After Navy Yard Shooting

Posted: Updated:

Governor Bob McDonnell promises a full review of state gun access laws after the mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard.

Investigators say the shooter, Aaron Alexis, bought one of the guns he used to kill 12 people at a northern Virginia gun shop.

The governor says that alone is not enough to justify tightening current state laws.

McDonnell pointed to Virginia's instant background check that is already in place, saying it is "simplistic" to say a waiting period would have prevented the Navy Yard shootings.
