Flying Mouse Brewery Gets Financial Help From Botetourt County

Posted: Updated:

Three months ago, Flying Mouse Brewery looked like an empty warehouse with a few supplies inside. But now, the scene is significantly different.

"Getting open was really exciting," said Flying Mouse co-owner Frank Moeller. "But it's just the beginning of what we hope is going to be a long relationship here in Botetourt County."

The Troutville brewery opened its doors to thirsty customers last month, offering beer tastings on weekends.

Now Flying Mouse is ready to take the next step with its grand opening on Oct. 19.

"It actually makes us look forward to the grand opening that much more because the response we've had has been so positive," said co-owner Debbie Moeller. "That's just been mostly through word of mouth."

Words that caught the attention of the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors, which approved $36,000 in financial aid to help the young business.

While the influx of money is always helpful, Moeller said what the money represents is critical to Flying Mouse's future.

"It's really great getting that incentive," he said. "But I think more than the money itself, it has to do with the backing. The support from the county folks tell us, 'You guys are part of our plan.'"

Moeller hopes to add three to four full-time jobs in the first year and eventually grow that number to a dozen.
