Health Care Registration Site Suffers Big Glitches on First Day of Open Enrollment
While the government was officially shutting down at midnight, the new Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as Obamacare, was just getting started.
The first day of healthcare signups got off to a rough start. The healthcare.gov website suffered quite a few technical glitches Tuesday morning before being temporarily shut down altogether.
Some people were able to fill out a few portions on the site before coming to a complete stop, while others were never able to begin registering at all.
"We haven't even been able to create an account," says Robin Davis, the outreach coordinator for New Horizons Healthcare in Roanoke. "We haven't looked at the new site at all. I'm sure that is an issue for a lot of people."
Officials say heavy traffic is to blame for the glitches.
President Obama said more than one million people had visited the site before 7 Tuesday morning.
