Wednesday, JCPenney announced it's closing all of its outlet stores, which will put a lot of people out of work, including a number here in the commonwealth.
The announcement means 1,400 employees across the country will soon be looking for new jobs, including 31 workers at the JC 5 Star Outlet in Martinsville.
JC Penney leaders said in a released statement that employees will get severance packages based on the length of their employment.
In a statement, the former head of JC's 5 Star Outlet says the closing was a painful decision. But he says it was necessity after a steep decline in sales.
According to Virginia Employment Commission's WARN website, the store will close on Nov. 30.
However, the Liberty Fair Mall won't be down a store for long: Marshalls is expected to move in at the end of the month.
