Judge Charles Dorsey upheld the jury's recommended sentence of seven years for Alex Hamm.
Hamm was found guilty earlier this year of stabbing Anthony Dale Hall, 27, of Roanoke, to death back on Sept. 15, 2012. Investigators said Hall died after some sort of altercation following last call at the Bridge Street Grill in the southwest part of the city.
A court spokesperson says Hamm was out on bond until Wednesday morning's hearing. After the judge's ruling, Hamm was taken into custody.
