H&M confirmed Thursday they will be opening a 17,000-square-foot store in Valley View Mall.
They plan to open in the fall of 2014.
Good news for Roanoke shoppers: a well-known international store chain could soon set up shop at Valley View Mall.
H&M has filed a building permit application to open a location here in the Star City.
The store would be about 17,000 square feet and located in front of Sears. According to the plans, the H&M store would be taking over the current storefronts of FYE, Auntie Anne's, Payless Shoes, Footaction and B&C Sports.
A building inspector for the city of Roanoke says the application needs to be approved before a permit is obtained and construction can start.
Construction costs for building and material is expected to be about $800,000.
B&C Sports is moving to another location in the mall and store manager Bobbie Kurz tells us they're excited for H&M to be coming and hopefully bring more jobs to the area.
"I want to assure our customers we're not going to be going anywhere. We're going to be right here," Kurz says.
It is unclear whether the other businesses will be leaving or relocating or when we will see any changes for the new store.
The mall's spokesperson declined to comment.
Kurz says they're preparing to move out sometime in the beginning of next year and says they will tell their customers where their new location will be.
