Posted: Updated:

Since Franklin County began focusing more on traffic safety 22 months ago through radar enforcement and other programs, it has seen a decrease in the number of people who have been killed in traffic accidents.

Major H. L. Clingenpeel broke down the statistics for us.

Traffic Fatalities
2012 - 18
2013 - 7

Traffic Citations
2011 - 744
2012 - 2275
2013 - 2193 (so far)
2013 - projected 2900

Currently a digital speed limit trailer is located on Route 116 for the first time. It tracks traffic volume, speed and the time of day people are speeding the most. This tool allows officers to strategically place their resources in areas when they are needed most. The Franklin County Sheriff's Department purchased the trailer in June of this year.

Clingenpeel says if community members would like for the department to monitor traffic volume and speed in their neighborhoods, they should contact the department.
