You may want to familiarize yourself with the layout of the Roanoke Civic Center because you will need to know where the bathrooms are. First up, the 25th annual Stocked Market is going on all weekend. Hit the Civic Center website for times and prices. I have heard that Santa will arrive from the North Pole by chopper tomorrow morning at 10. The Stocked Market is, in my mind, the official kickoff of the holiday season. Sponsored by the Junior League of the Roanoke Valley.
If you're not worn out from that, Alton Brown will be at the Roanoke Performing Arts Theatre tomorrow night at 8. Alton is probably my favorite TV chef because you learn something while you stuff your face. He had a great show on rice that probably should have been in a science textbook. Tickets for foodie/geek Alton Brown are still available, but the VIP parking is sold out.
Also tomorrow, you can shake a hand and thank a veteran at the Virginia Veterans Parade starting at 11 a.m. at the Roanoke City Market Building. Military units, marching units, and military, college, and high school bands will be out in fine form for one of the largest veterans events in the state.
Other events this weekend include the third annual Roanoke Tweed Run with bowtie- and vest-clad cyclists in the Grandin area Saturday, the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra's Homecoming program at The Jefferson Center on Sunday, and I will be raking leaves tomorrow in my front yard so feel free to bring a lawnchair out and point and laugh at me.
