The controversy that pits a Roanoke neighborhood against a Southeast business took center stage Monday night.
The owner of the Epic Stop In presented a petition to the Roanoke City Council, hoping to overturn a restriction passed over a decade ago that bans alcohol sales at the location.
Members of the community who are against the change also showed up in force to express their fears about the potential crime risk.
"What applies on one store should apply for everyone else," store owner Adam Elsayed said. "Like, we have four stores that are able to sell alcoholic beverages, but we can't."
Despite the heated debate, and the owner's pleas with council, they voted unanimously to not lift the ban.
