Giles woman arrested for animal cruelty

Posted: Updated:

A Giles County woman is facing three charges of animal cruelty after her six dogs are found starving, dehydrated and severely underweight.

Giles County Sheriff Morgan Millirons tells WSLS that 27-year-old Amber Thompson of Newport was arrested this week.

Thompson had numerous complaints made to Giles County Animal control after neighbors spotted the condition of the dogs.

Jeff Spicer, Giles Animal Control Officer tells us that Thompson kept four dogs and two puppies.

Among those is an adult German Sheppard, plot hound, retriever mix and a Pomeranian mix with two Pomeranian puppies.

The dogs received immediate veterinarian care after Thompson's arrest and have since been released.

Now they are being held at the Giles County Animal Shelter pending Thompson's court hearing.

Thompson was released from the New River Valley jail on a $1500 bond.

WSLS will continue to keep you updated on the latest.
