Salem Church Working to Keep Kids Warm This Winter

Posted: Updated:

Bethel Baptist Church in Salem is collecting winter coats to give to kids at Westside Elementary School.

This is the third year the church has worked with other groups in the community to help meet the need. Right now, the church has about 250 coats and is hoping to double that number in the next two weeks.

"We try to meet as many needs as we possibly can," said Pastor Hilton Jeffreys.

"We had a student last year who came in and got a coat and did not take the coat off anytime I saw the child," said Westside Elementary Principal Jennifer Dean. "[He] was so excited and proud of that coat, he wore that coat until May 31 when we left for the year."

If you would like to add to this collection of coats, you can drop them off at Bethel Baptist Church at 1601 S. Colorado Street in Salem.
