The Gobbler Gear store in Salem is closing at the end of December.
The store is a local spot in Salem for Virginia Tech gear. The owner, Dedra Horn, says she's just not making as much money as she is spending to keep the store open. She says there's also been some impact from the athletic teams not doing as well. However, the online store will stay open.
Horn says selling the Hokie merchandise online hasn't been a problem. She now plans to focus all her efforts on the website. She's encouraging people to be on the lookout for a big revamping of the Gobbler Gear website on Black Friday. She says to expect some big deals for Cyber Monday, too.
Horn says it wasn't an easy decision to close the store, but she hopes the community will continue to support the store online. She doesn't have an exact date when the store will close, but says there will be final sales on lots of the items until they do.
