Posted: Updated:

A double amputee is riding through our area hoping to raise $1 million for charities like The Coalition to Salute America's Heroes, The Semper Fi Fund, and Ride2Recovery.

Rob Jones is a Virginia Tech graduate who the joined the Marine Corps reserve as a combat engineer in Roanoke.

Jones lost his legs in Afghanistan in 2010 after stepping on an explosive.

After recovering, he is now biking across the country.

The Marine spent Monday night in Rockbridge County and after resting Tuesday will continue tomorrow going through Lexington, headed through Buchanan.

He rides about 30 miles a day and will eventually end in San Diego after biking about 5,400 miles.
