The Southwest Virginia Ballet is bringing it back this year: The Nutcracker at the Roanoke Civic Center with three performances this weekend. Tomorrow at 2 and 7 p.m., and again on Sunday at 3 p.m. Over 150 performers from 15 different dance schools in the Roanoke Valley. If you leave the Roanoke Performing Arts Theatre without Christmas spirit after this, then I'll bet you would also loot a bunch of houses on Christmas Eve and steal the last can of Who Hash.

In theaters this weekend, the next chapter in The Hobbit saga, The Desolation of Smaug. Ian McKellan and Sherlock's Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch lending a voice to the dragon. Stephen Colbert has a bit part, and this one is only two hours and 41 minutes long, so go ahead and get the large soft drink. You can hold it! The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is rated PG-13.

It's not Julie Andrews and it's not Carrie Underwood: The Mill Mountain Theatre has their production of The Sound Of Music with performances through Dec. 22 on the Trinkle Main Stage. Tomorrow and Sunday, the shows are at 2 p.m. and you can get tickets online at millmountain.org.
