Changes to SNAP and TANF Benefit Amounts in 2014

Posted: Updated:
The amount of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits Virginia recipients receive each month may change beginning in January of 2014.

This potential change is due to the 1.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) in the Social Security Administration (SSA) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. The COLA will automatically take effect on January 1, 2014.

For SNAP and TANF recipients, the COLA adjustment may not have an impact on benefits; however, in some cases, benefits may be reduced.

If SSI or SSA recipients who currently receive SNAP or TANF benefits have any questions, they should contact their case worker at their local department of social services or call 1-800-552-3431.
