Carilion Clinic displays only local art at facilities

Posted: Updated:
This Christmas is a little merrier for local artists after Carilion Clinic just bought original pieces from more than 80 Southwest Virginia artists.

For several years now Carilion designers have chosen to buy art from local galleries and even framers to help support area businesses.

All the art is hung is public spaces at the hospitals, offices and clinics.

Designers last week scooped up art from Roanoke to the New River Valley for Giles and Blacksburg facilities opening in January.

“We all live here together, we work here together, the success of Carilion is based on our community as well, so we need that sort of connectivity,” explained Jim Bohn, Carilion Design Group, Manager.

Designers says they started the local art effort at the riverside complex in 2006.

Before that they simply ordered posters from national suppliers.
