On Tuesday, Roanoke city voters headed to the polls for the 11th District special election. The wind and cold weather did not stop some residents from showing their support for the candidates,Democrat Sam Rasoul and Republic Octavia Johnson. According to the Roanoke City Registrar's office, early voting numbers showed turnout around 2.5%.
Roanoke is divided into two houses, the 11th district and the 17th district. There are 28 precincts voting in Tuesday's election. Polls close at 7pm. The winner will replace retiring delegate Onzlee Ware who stepped down in December.
