State Trooper remembered at funeral

Posted: Updated:

Virginia State Police Sgt. James Phillippi is being remembered by law enforcement around the country.

Representatives from North Carolina, Delaware and Tennessee all came to the funeral Tuesday in Martinsville at McCabe Memorial Baptist Church.

Sgt. Phillippi served for 42 years with state police and although he didn't have any children of his own we are told he often acted like a father to other troopers, especially new ones, inviting them over for dinner and holidays.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe and his wife attended the funeral along with the Virginia Secretary of Public Safety.

Sgt. Phillippi died over the weekend on duty from a medical condition. He will be buried Wednesday in Scott County.
