You don't have to worry about everybody getting cold this weekend at the Kids Winter Carnival at the Salem Civic Center. It's inside! Plenty of rides and games plus yummy food, probably on a stick. It actually kicked off last night, but the Kids Winter Carnival will be in full swing all weekend long. Hit salemciviccenter.com for ticket prices.
Maybe you don't mind the cold. How about taking the Polar Plunge at Smith Mountain Lake tomorrow? Things get underway at 10 a.m. with the dive into the lake happening at 11:30. Participants will grit past the hypothermia to swim to a man-made iceberg for a prize. They'll even have a Pee-Wee Plunge for the kids at 11 a.m., but you can stay dry and play Arctic Volleyball for just five bucks per person. It's going on at Bernard's Landing at the lake and benefits the YMCA.
And the monster is back. Aaron Eckhart stars in "I, Frankenstein." Victor Frankenstein's creature finds itself drawn into the middle of a centuries-old war between two immortal clans. This looks pretty good and it was written and directed by Stuart Beattie, who created characters for the Pirates of the Caribbean films, and the screenplays for "GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra" and "30 Days of Night." "I, Frankenstein" is rated PG-13.
