Spartans Poised for Stretch Run

Posted: Updated:

The Salem boys basketball team is no stranger to big wins. After all they did walk away last year with the 2013 VHSL Division 4 crown, but it came with a late season push.  The Spartans started 10-8 before going on a 9-2 run leading to that state championship and they find themselves in a similar situation this year.  The group sits at 7-6 on the year, but to the team it feels familiar and they see themselves starting to gel.

One piece of the puzzle that graduated was Matt Hill, as one-third of Salem's big three made up of Hill..Troy Mann and Alex Light, but with Mann and Light both standing 6-6 and Light's new and improved lighter frame, the Spartans are still solid in the paint.  And when it comes to the big man, he is just now getting his legs back. Post season football kept him off the court for a couple of weeks...and his endurance is just now coming up to speed. If the Spartans can fine tune all that talent, a deep playoff run isn't just possible..it is inevitable..
