St. Patrick's Day is officially Monday, but we're starting the celebration tomorrow with the annual St. Patrick's parade and Shamrock Festival in downtown Roanoke. There will be family activities at the fountain along Church Avenue, the Shamrock Festival itself begins at noon, and traditional Irish music at the Celtic Festival starts at 1. It starts with the St. Patrick's Day parade starting at 11. Look for Bob, Tara and Becky Freemal from our 10 O'Clock News. I hear they have candy!
And as part of the Commonwealth Games, The Shamrock Hill 5K and 10K starts early tomorrow morning. The one-mile walk is at 8:30 with the 5 and 10Ks kicking off at 9:15. The whole thing benefits the students of Roanoke Catholic School and is the first regional run of the year. Course maps and registration information is online at commonwealthgames.org.
And this week's racing movie stars Aaron Paul and Dominic Cooper. "Need For Speed" tells the story of a fresh-from-prison street racer framed by a wealthy business associate. He joins a cross-country race with revenge in mind. His now ex-partner puts a bounty on his head just as the race begins. During filming, Aaron Paul nearly took out the director when his car came within two inches of the camera. I hear that shot looks great on screen. "Need For Speed" is rated PG-13.
