Local Crew Chief in Action This Weekend in Martinsville

Posted: Updated:
For NASCAR Camping World truck series crew chief Jeff Hensley the Martinsville Speedway is more than the sports oldest track, it’s home.

Hensley has been wrenching on race cars at the half mile since he was 15, so he is use to the tracks challenges, but this weekend when he climbs up on the pit box he will face a new challenge. Calling a race for a driver who is the youngest to ever get behind the wheel of a NASCAR Truck, 16 year old Gray Gaulding.  Gray has been a standout in the K & N Series and is one of the sport's up-and-coming talents.  Hensley says he's watched him race and is impressed with his patience and understanding in the race car.

And that patience will be needed behind the wheel, and the 16 year old will have a ton of experience to fall back on once the green flag falls. Hensley says rtacing is something he's been doing every since he was little--it has been a family affair.

And it’s hard not to know everything about the track, breaking points, where to take off coming out of the turns, and just how far to push a 3400 pound race car when it’s all you known, literally.

And we will see just what the combination of youth plus experience can turn out this Saturday in the Kroger 250.
