iCan Shine Bike Camp Having Successful Second Year in Roanoke
A special camp is underway and it's designed to make sure everyone has the opportunity to learn to ride a bike.
iCan Shine Bike Camp came to Roanoke for the first time last year. On Tuesday, Lindsey Ward had the opportunity to volunteer as one camper got a little more comfortable on three wheels.
Andrew Darby is in 8th grade. He spent an hour going around in circles in the gym of Spectrum Sports Academy on a bike.
Meanwhile camper Luke Leech illustrated just how much of a need it is to have something like this in our area. He and his family drove in two and a half hours away from Highland County to take part.
He was all smiles as he got to ride on a tandem bike with one of the instructors. Luke's mom says this camp means he can join in on a family activity.
“When I saw it on television last summer I said I wish I had known about that and then I saw another clip early on and thought ‘oh my gosh I hope it's not too late, we have to do this’,” explained Marty Leech, Luke’s mom.
By the end of the week, the campers will be on their own bikes, riding around outside.
